CRACKED ROD END BEARING
A PIK-20D currently under repair following a crash was found to have a cracked elevator rod ball end fitting that failed completely when the aircraft crashed. Similar fittings are installed in the rudder hinge system. Should the aircraft be subject to a heavy landing this area must be checked thoroughly for evidence of failure.
