MISCELLANEOUS AIRWORTHINESS INFORMATION - Tailplane Mount / Elevator Drive Pin - Schempp-Hirth Two Seat Sailplanes
AWA 2024-1 was issued 11 Apr 2024 advising of the failure of an elevator drive pin on a Duo Discus sailplane. The sailplane had logged 5919 hours and 2119 landings. Both pins had been replaced at 2727 hours. The failure was discovered whilst performing the Pre-Flight Inspection when the tailplane exhibited excess free play. The pin fracture had occurred at the attachment bolt hole.
