SECURITY OF AILERON CONTROL CIRCUIT BEARINGS
A control lever with a loose bearing was found during the production of the Stemme S10 & subsequent inspection of other levers has shown that a bearing may become loose in its housing during operation of the sailplane. In all push rod & lever connections except one, the bearing is held in a clevis which would prevent disengagement due to a loose bearing. A loose bearing would be indicated by the bearing outer race being displaced to one side of the operating lever or rod end in which it is installed. The exception is the connection between the aileron control rod 10SQ- RMB and the connection shaft 10SQ-RMW. This joint could become completely disengaged. The LBA has issued Airworthiness Directive D-2004-443 and Stemme has issued Service Bulletin A31-10-069, which forms part of this AD.
