BONDING FAILURE IN WING
There has been an in-flight failure of the LH wing structure of a Duo-Discus during a pull-up manoeuvre. A 4 metre length of the LH wing broke off and the crew escaped from the aircraft by parachute. The failure was caused by a bonding fault in the spar about 4 metres inboard of the wingtip. LBA AD 2003-245/2 (Duo-Discus T), LBA AD 2003-246/2 (Duo Discus) and Schempp-Hirth Technical Note No. 396-8/890-3 and associated Appendix require an inspection of the upper spar cap and spar web. Both documents form part of this AD.
