FITTING OF WINGLETS TO 17 METER WINGS, IAW GISBORNE AERONAUTICS ENGINEERING ORDER GA-DG-400-EO-044
A fatal accident occurred in Japan to a DG-400. Although the actual cause of the accident has not been disclosed by the Japanese authorities, the aircraft was fitted with factory approved and manufactured 17 metre wing extensions, with winglets fitted designed and manufactured in Australia in accordance with the above Engineering Order. A Japanese Airworthiness Directive has been issued prohibiting further flight of DG-400 aircraft with this combination of wing modifications. It is considered prudent to prohibit further flight in similarly modified Australian-registered DG-400s. Required action is remove winglets produced in accordance with EO GA-DG-400-EO-044 from any DG-400 aircraft with 17 metre wing extensions fitted. This action is required before further flight.
