PLACARDING OF THE COCKPIT TO PREVENT FLIGHT WITH CLOSED WATER BALLAST VALVES AT HIGH ALTITUDE

Applicable to the Standard Libelle 201B, Kestrel, Hornet, Mosquito and Mosquito B and Glasflügel 304 when fitted with water ballast bags. 20f the water ballast valve is closed when flying at high altitude the pressure differential between sea level atmospheric pressure in the bags and the atmospheric pressure at 16400 ft can cause wing damage. Issue 1 of the AD did not make it clear that only those gliders with water ballast bags are affected. The filler caps for gliders with integral tanks are not air tight and therefore prevent excessive pressure differential. LBA Airworthiness Directive No. 84-11 refers.
