MODIFICATION OF THE AILERON CROSS TUBE
Issue 1: During an Annual Inspection cracks were found on the aileron cross tube assembly. Another aircraft was then inspected and similar cracks were also found. Issue 2: As a result of issue 1 a significant number of cross tubes have been found to be cracked both here and in Germany. Therefore Glasfaser-Flugzeug-Service GmbH who provide technical support for Glasflugel built sailplanes have prepared a modification to strengthen the cross tube. The most likely cause of this cracking is derigging the sailplane with the ailerons still connected. Defect report, Glasfaser Technical Note No. 201-33 refers.
