ELEVATOR DRIVE
Applicable to the Glasflugel Club Libelle 205, Hornet & Hornet C, Mosquito & Mosquito B, Glasflugel 304 & Glasflugel 304 B. In 1984 a Hornet sailplane suffered failure of one of the arms of the elevator drive bracket during a landing accident. Further investigation showed that other Hornet owners had found distortion of the bracket after ground loops or heavy landings. In 1987 the Schempp-Hirth factory issued a Technical Note calling for reinforcement of or replacement of the almost identical fitting on their range of sailplanes following an in flight failure. As a preventative measure, the Schempp-Hirth reinforcing scheme has been adopted for the Glasflugel types affected.
